Featuring its long focal length and bright f / 4 design, along with fast AF and rugged VR, this lens further sets itself apart with a built-in 1.4x teleconverter that allows for almost instant switching to an effective 840mm f / 5.6 for even more reach when needed.
Integrated 1.4x focal converter
The integrated 1.4x teleconverter lets you instantly extend your reach up to 840mm by simply flipping the switch to the right.
Since the teleconverter is integrated within the lens housing, it is optically adapted to the lens to improve imaging performance and also fully retains the lens' weather protection.
The integrated design also reduces the likelihood of attracting dust or dirt to the optical services or sensors and saves time when changing focal lengths.
When the teleconverter is in use, this 600mm f / 4 becomes an effective 840mm f / 5.6 lens
S Line Optic
The fast f / 4 maximum aperture excels in the available lighting conditions and also benefits from depth-of-field control to separate and isolate subjects from a crowded background.
Helping to virtually eliminate chromatic aberrations, color fringes and comic aberrations, this lens features two ED (extra-low dispersion) and one Super ED glass elements, two light fluorite elements and one SR (refractive to short wavelength).
The SR element features a specialized high dispersion design that refracts wavelengths shorter than blue; this helps to achieve truly accurate color rendering and also helps to make the lens design more compact.
Refined anti-reflective coatings
The newly developed Meso Amorphous Coat offers the best anti-glare performance of a NIKKOR lens and outperforms Nano Crystal Coat in diagonal incident light and matches ARNEO Coat's performance in vertical incident light.
ARNEO and Nano Crystal Coats are still applied for even more comprehensive anti-glare protection from all angles and help suppress ghosting, reflections and glare for higher contrast and more accurate color response when working in conditions strong lighting and backlight.
Silky Swift VCM autofocus
Silky Swift Voice Coil Motor (VCM) uses magnets instead of gears to move focus groups at faster initial speeds and with greater precision and smoothness.
